UKBCSD director Chris Carr has been appointed to the influential Construction Leadership Council, and will help ensure the Council is more representative of the hundreds of thousands of SME firms in our industry, according to the Federation of Master Builder (FMB).
Chris Carr, Joint Managing Director of SME house building firm Carr & Carr (Builders), and Board member of the FMB, has been selected to join other industry leaders on the Construction Leadership Council (CLC), the first such appointment of a Master Builder.
He is currently a Board Member of the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), sits on the FMB Home Builders Group which he previously chaired, and represents the FMB on the National House-Building Council (NHBC). Chris is also a member of the CITB National Council for England.
Commenting on the CLC’s announcement, Brian Berry, Chief Executive of the FMB, said: “The CLC is tasked with driving industry improvement but it can only do this if it reflects the actual make-up of the construction sector. For too long, the CLC has been dominated by major contractors so today’s announcement is a big step in the right direction. SMEs make up 99 per cent of the construction industry, train two thirds of all construction apprentices, and will be instrumental in achieving the CLC’s ambitions around skills, productivity, and quality. We hope more SME appointments will follow.”
Commenting on his appointment, Chris Carr, said: “I am passionate about the construction industry and I want to help ensure it is able to embrace the challenges that lie ahead. It is therefore a privilege to be asked to sit on the CLC. SMEs are the backbone of the construction industry, and I’m therefore pleased that the CLC has taken the decision to broaden its membership by asking me to join.”
