It isn’t easy to be truly ‘sustainable’. The perception is one of financial risk, of hampered growth, of stifled enterprise. Business and industry must be given every opportunity to flourish and prosper, while achieving the UK’s commitments internationally on climate change and nationally, for economic growth. This means enabling the disruptive technologies of today to enhance the quality of people’s lives and the utility of the places designed for tomorrow. This is what we mean by sustainable development.
Sustainable development is now so fundamentally important to the development industry it must be seen as a long-term restructuring solution, part of the bigger economic picture. Responding directly to the Government’s agenda of building 300,000 homes each year by the mid-2020s…and well beyond… procuring an alternative to traditional methods of design and construction must now be at the heart of the UK’s long-term growth plan. This will accelerate our capability to deliver new homes, new infrastructure in new and existing locations, sustainably and at a faster pace.
